David Sereda's first aspiration in life was to become an astronaut. In 1968, David and a friend witnessed a UFO along with hundreds of other witnesses. Pa MUFON had its fourth annual UFO Conference in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh in mid October. The two weekend two day events drew 900 attendees, along with 258 for dinner and 55 for the cocktail hour. The bulk of our presales were through free social media.

We had a great conference in Philly. As close to perfect as possible. We drew 390 for the two days plus 180 at the Friday night cocktail hour and Saturday dinner. Jeff Strauss and Jen Stein really raised the professional bar for us at this one. We also sold 40 T-Shirts. Bob Gardner, Mike Melton, Wayne Gracey, Dan Medleycott, Rick Bantel and Bill Weber were also instrumental in the conferences smooth running. Speakers included Linda Moulton Howe, Dr Lynne Kitei, George Filer and Bill Birnes.

We had some controlled chaos at the start of our Pittsburgh Conference as 310 attendees showed up on a plan of 225 and only 1 speaker system was working in the theater and the 30 foot screen wouldn’t come down. We made the necessary or lucky adjustments and all went well before the last attendee took his seat. All the speakers were great and were keynoted by Stanton Friedman who started his UFO career in Pittsburgh and on KDKA radio. Stanton also did a one hour interview on KDKA after he spoke on Saturday night. We honored Stanton with a lifetime achievement award on Saturday. Our newest FI, former Yankee and Pirate pitcher Doc Medich had the honor of driving Stanton to the airport Sunday and having his undivided attention for questions. We had a great dinner buffet Saturday with 3 entrees and 132 attendees. Sunday realized another 215 attendees and was highlighted by Dr Meldrum and Stan Gordon. Many attendees said they saw our UFO lawn signs all week. Unfortunately, they disappeared as quickly as I kept replacing them and they made someone a nice souvenir. Other Pa members that helped out were Fred Saluga, Brian and Terrie Seech,  Denny and Dana Henshaw, Brian McKnight, Rick Behanna, Juan Carlos, Jeff Strauss, Tracey Roy and Sam Colisimo. Special thanks goes out to Eric Altman who made this our most successful conference yet.

NBC news covered the Philly conference and DVE and KDKA radio covered the Pitt event. Although it was exhausting to do two conferences 300 miles apart on back to back weekends, we already have our 2012 Conference dates selected along with a wish list of speakers. Pa MUFON will donate 25% of the combined profit to MUFON HQ.

Analyzing the star map

In 1968, Marjorie Fish of Oak Harbor, Ohio, read Fuller's Interrupted Journey. She was an elementary school teacher and amateur astronomer. Intrigued by the "star map", Fish wondered if it might be "deciphered" to determine which star system the UFO came from. Assuming that one of the fifteen stars on the map must represent the Earth's Sun, Fish constructed a three-dimensional model of nearby Sun-like stars using thread and beads, basing stellar distances on those published in the 1969 Gliese Star Catalogue. Studying thousands of vantage points over several years, the only one that seemed to match the Hill map was from the viewpoint of the double star system of Zeta Reticuli.

Distance information needed to match three stars, forming the distinctive triangle Hill said she remembered, was not generally available until the 1969 Gliese Catalogue came out.

Fish sent her analysis to Webb. Agreeing with her conclusions, Webb sent the map to Terence Dickinson, editor of the popular magazine Astronomy. Dickinson did not endorse Fish and Webb's conclusions, but for the first time in the journal's history, Astronomy invited comments and debate on a UFO report, starting with an opening article in the December 1974 issue. For about a year afterward, the opinions page of Astronomy carried arguments for and against Fish's star map. Notable was an argument made by Carl Sagan and Steven Soter, arguing that the seeming "star map" was little more than a random alignment of chance points. In contrast, those more favorable to the map, such as David Saunders, a statistician who had been on the Condon UFO study, argued that unusual alignment of key Sun-like stars in a plane centered around Zeta Reticuli (first described by Fish) was statistically improbable to have happened by chance from a random group of stars in our immediate neighborhood.

In 1993, two German crop circle enthusiasts, Joachim Koch and Hans-Jürgen Kyborg, suggested that the map depicted planets in the Solar System, not nearby stars. The objects in the map, they said, closely match the positions of the Sun, the six inner planets and several asteroids around the time of the incident.

Tonopah Test Range (TTR), also known as Area 52,[1] is a restricted military installation located about 30 miles (48 km) southeast of Tonopah, Nevada. It is part of the northern fringe of the Nellis Range, measuring 625 sq mi (1,620 km2). Tonopah Test Range is located about 70 miles (110 km) northwest of Groom Dry Lake, home of the Area 51 facility. Like the Groom Lake facility, Tonopah is a site of interest to conspiracy theorists, mostly for its use of experimental and classified aircraft. As such, it is not the focus of alien enthusiasts, unlike its neighbor. It is currently used for nuclear weapons stockpile reliability testing, research and development of fusing and firing systems, and testing nuclear weapon delivery systems.[2] The airspace comprises restricted area R-4809 of the Nevada Test and Training Range and is often used for military training.

The Tonopah Test Range is owned by the United States Department of Energy and is managed by Sandia National Laboratories, a division of Lockheed-Martin, which operates the Tonopah Test Range under an Air Force permit with the National Nuclear Security Administration.[2] The range is part of the Great Basin Desert and lies mostly within the Cactus Flat valley, consisting of horst and graben geology.[2] It is flanked by the Cactus Range hills to the west and the Kawich Range to the east, which is home of Silverbow, one of the largest mining ghost towns in Nevada. The vegetation consists mostly of black sagebrush and creosote bush. It holds a sizable wild horse and burro population, closely monitored by the Bureau of Land Management. Common denizens of the TTR include the gray fox, pronghorn, coyote, and mule deer, along with the native birds sage thrasher, sage grouse, and sage sparrow.

"Area 52" has been featured in television news casts, such as presented by Las Vegas Channel 8 News.[10] Area 52 has also been featured on The History Channel's UFO Hunters.[11] In both of these presentations Area 52 is speculated to facilitate the use of highly advanced aircraft technology including craft such as flying saucers or UFOs. In the television series Stargate SG-1, Area 52 is actually the code designation for Stargate Command in the US treasury. In an episode of Total Drama World Tour, Area 52 is visited right before the contestants get to Area 51. In the Warner Bros movie Looney Tunes Back in Action DJ Drake, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Kate Houghton visit a secret military base in The Nevada Desert, used mainly as a storage for extraterrestrial lifeforms and technology and government secrets , called Area 52. The base in the movie was the "real" Area 51, and the name Area 51 was only a cover for Area 52.
